Chanukah Book Drive 2006
This holiday season, donate a new children’s book in the name of a friend or family member and help public school children gain access to quality literature. We will send your honoree a holiday card acknowledging your gift.

Peruse our recommended Book Drive Wish List and find the title you want to donate.
To Pay by Check:
Please send a check (payable to Jewish Coalition for Literacy) to:

and we will purchase a book for you. Please include the name and address of the person in whose honor you are buying the book. We will send that person a holiday card saying that you purchased a book that will be donated to a Bay Area public school or after-school program.

 Z'man Likro: A Time to Read
Temple Emanu-El Book Drive for William L. Cobb Elementary School
Help kick off the new partnership between JCL, Temple Emanu-El and Cobb Elementary School by donating to the Z'man Likro Book Drive and place much-needed books into the hands of Cobb students. Cobb recently cleaned out their school library to get rid of old, inappropriate books, and they're in great need of quality children's books to inspire their students.
It's easy to donate! Please read ALL of the following instructions:
- Visit the link below to purchase books from Cobb's wishlist on the Books Inc. website.
- When you check out, list Temple Emanu-El Book Drive as "Address 1" under shipping information.
- Check the In-Store Pick Up option for delivery. The books will be held for Temple Emanu-El at the Laurel Village Store.
You will receive a 15% discount on your book drive purchase which will not be reflected in your check-out price.

Each year, JCL facilitates the donation of thousands of new and gently used books to schools and students throughout the Bay Area. Join us in helping to provide these much needed books to Bay Area school children.
Centerpieces with Heart
 Centerpieces made of flowers are beautiful, but gift-wrapped books are beautiful and meaningful! Use your next celebration as a way to perform tikkun olam (repairing the world) by using decorative book centerpieces for your tables. After the event, all books will be donated to local public elementary schools. Join the Jewish Coalition for Literacy's effort to share the joy of reading and bring more books into the lives of local children. Do something different for your next cocktail party, birthday party or bar/bat mitzvah.
Book Donations
A single book can change a child's life forever. Every year, the Jewish Coalition for Literacy makes it a priority to ensure that children not only attain the necessary skills to become successful readers, but also that they have access to children's books. If you are looking for a way to contribute, consider donating new or gently used books, which will be distributed by JCL to tutoring sites. For your next birthday party, baby shower, or office holiday party, ask your guests to bring new children's books instead of gifts. Whether you donate one or one hundred books, your donation will have a tremendous affect on our children and our community.
Chanukah Book Drive
 Every year JCL sponsors a Chanukah Book Drive. This drive enables people to donate new children's books in the name of a friend or family member. JCL sends the honorees holiday cards acknowledging the gift and all books are given to children and schools. Monetary contributions are used to purchase additional books. This past year, The JCL Chanukah Book Drive was a huge success! Surpassing all of our expectations, the Bay Area JCL collected almost 1,000 brand new books and over $4,000 in cash donations which was used to purchase new books. It is clear that our volunteers and the community appreciate the dire need for new books in our public schools, and our sites were overjoyed to receive them.

Organize a Community Book Drive
Organizing a community book drive is always a great way to collect books for children. You can start a book drive at your local synagogue, community center, school, grocery store, or place of work. The JCL is more than happy to assist in the coordination of a book drive.
Make a Contribution
You can make a financial contribution of any size, which will go towards the purchase of new books for Bay Area public schools. JCL will provide a thank-you letter that can be used for tax purposes. To contribute, checks should be made payable to 'Jewish Coalition for Literacy' and sent to the East Bay, San Francisco, or Peninsula JCL offices listed on the Contact Us page. If you would like the donation to be earmarked for books, please make a note of this. If the contribution has been made in memory or in honor of someone, please let us know and provide the contact information of where an acknowledgement letter can be sent.
