JCL’s 10th Anniversary Celebration is September 20th!

Come celebrate with the Jewish Coalition for Literacy on its tenth anniversary and honor our tutors and founding funders.

The Bay Area JCL began placing tutors in San Francisco public schools over 10 years ago. The organization was established as a project of the Jewish Community Relations Council with a seed grant from the Jewish Community Endowment Fund of the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties. Since that time the program has expanded to the East Bay and the Peninsula.

JCL will celebrate its 10th Anniversary with an exciting fundraising event entitled “Inspiring Readers, One Child at a Time” on Monday, September 20, 2010 at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco. The evening will begin at 5:30 pm with a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception and will include a performance by the renowned theatre company, Word for Word.

This celebratory event includes a group recognition of 35 dedicated individuals who have tutored for at least one hour per week since JCL was founded! We will also honor our founding funders, whose support was critical to establishing the program in the Bay Area.

Since its formation, Bay Area JCL has tutored over 12,500 public school children in grades K–3. That is truly something to celebrate! Please plan to join us at this event.

For additional information or be included on our mailing list, please contact Roberta Rothman, JCL Bay Area Director at rrothman@jcrc.org or 415-977-7430 x102. Invitations will be forthcoming later in the summer.

Help us kick off the annual Chanukah Book Drive! We will be eating, drinking, and listening to Andrea Alban Gosline, a local children's author and writing coach.

Admission “costs” one new or gently used children’s book.

Every book donated will brighten the holidays for a student at a Bay Area public school!
