JCL volunteers complete 2.5 hours of training focused on Read Aloud and One-on-One tutoring techniques. This training has been developed to meet and exceed district and state standards. No previous tutoring experience is necessary! In addition to attending the training session, we ask that you provide references and a negative TB test.
JCL tutors volunteer at schools, after-school programs and evening programs throughout San Francisco, the East Bay and the Peninsula. Morning, afternoon and evening hours are available. Potential tutors choose a site and schedule based on what is most convenient for them.
Due to the fact that JCL has a small staff, we are only able to hold training sessions during two seasons — the beginning of the first semester (mainly September–October), and the beginning of the second semester (mainly January–February).
